Pediatric cancer patients at Texas Children’s Hospital treated to inaugural ‘Christmas in July’ program

Houston Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson hosted his
foundation’s first-ever ‘Christmas in July’ program at Texas Children’s
Hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Jackson visited with critically-ill pediatric
cancer patients and their siblings to surprise them with a special day to lift
their spirits during a stressful time in their lives. Each child received an
autographed football, Nintendo Mario Kart video game, and a stuffed bear with a
personalized message from Kareem, courtesy of Build-A-Bear workshop.

“This cause is really near and dear to my heart,” Jackson
stated at the program. “My sister and mother are both cancer survivors.” Jackson,
who has become beloved in the Houston area for both his on-field performance and
his dedication to giving back to the community, launched his foundation as a
way to give back to the children and women who suffered from the same forms of
cancer that his sister and mother battled and overcame.

Jackson plans to partner with Houston-area hospitals each
summer to make the Christmas in July event an annual program of his charity,
the Kareem Jackson Foundation.

To raise money for Christmas in July, Jackson hosted the
celebrity-studded ‘Dinner for a Difference’ event last fall, with guests donating
more than $190,000 for programs to help women with breast cancer and children
with pediatric cancer.
|
In addition to funding the Christmas in July program, Dinner
for a Difference will finance ‘Pretty in Pink,’ which will be held in October to
pamper breast cancer fighters with a delicious gourmet meal and special VIP
swag bag.
