Houston Texans’ safety Kareem Jackson hosted his first “Pretty in Pink” community outreach program for breast cancer survivors at the Four Seasons in downtown Houston on Monday, October 8th, 2018. The dinner was organized by the Kareem Jackson Foundation as part of his charitable organization’s mission to honor the fight that women who are currently battling or who have achieved victory over breast cancer have experienced. The night was inspired by Jackson’s mother Rossalyn, who battled breast cancer twice, and overcame the disease both times.

“Just like my mom, many of these women didn’t get the luxury of stopping everything when they found out they had breast cancer,” said Jackson. “They had to continue to live their day-to-day lives, juggle work and family responsibilities, and even struggle with financial hardships. This is my chance to give back to them for what they’ve been going through.”

The invited women were identified by The Rose, a mammography and diagnostic services non-profit breast cancer organization and through other Houston cancer survivors networks. The event was sponsored by Woodforest Bank with additional donations from Nordstrom, including certificates for complimentary prosthesis bra fittings and makeup swag bags to help the women feel appreciated, and The Four Seasons Houston, who hosted the evening, catered a gourmet dinner, and set up a mobile spa and cocktail hour in an event space in their downtown hotel.

In addition to Jackson’s mother’s fight with breast cancer, his sister Crystalynn was diagnosed with leukemia as a child. She also won her battle, and Jackson was so impacted by these experiences that he dedicated his philanthropic efforts to honoring and supporting women and children who fight cancer. Along with his Christmas in July program that provides surprise visits and gifts to pediatric cancer patients each summer, Jackson intends for the Pretty in Pink program to become an annual community outreach event of his foundation.

To raise money to extend support and resources to more women and children, Jackson will host his second annual “Dinner for a Difference” with his Houston Texans teammates on October 29th, 2018. Last year’s event raised more than $190,000.
